Different Standards
It’s easy to build processes & procedures when the work is systematic. Fold the letter before stuffing into the envelope. Cook the patty before putting onto the bun. On the assembly the line average unit per person per hour is a key measurement. But what about when the work is creative or conceptual? Is one hour assembling widgets the same as one hour thinking about brand strategy? No. Therefore it doesn’t make sense to hold a strategist to the same performance metrics as a tactician. Yet managers so often fall into this trap.
Here’s the trick - hold your team accountable to standards that are relevant to their roles.
