The purpose of a meeting is to have meaningful conversations that lead to measurable outcomes (whether video or in person). I think it’s fair to say we’ve hit an all time high of meeting overload in the digital sphere.
The “meeting” should be considered sacred ground where every participant's time is honored/valued and each person has a valid reason for attending.
Although there are different types of meetings from tactical to strategic, I have found it effective to plan for any meeting with these three things in mind:
Agenda - don’t just wing it. Go into meetings intentionally or not at all!
Action items post meetings - don’t just hope someone jotted down notes. Make sure as a wrap up to every meeting that action items, timelines and stakeholders are assigned.
Follow up and follow through - ensure what was discussed is on time, track, budget, etc.
Good luck on your next meeting…
